Russian Billionaire and Putin Ally Tied to D.C’s Most Expensive Mansion
The Washington Post found a tie between the elite mansion in Washington and Russian aluminum tycoon Oleg Deripaska. The source indicates that a huge house with 23 bedrooms was bought by Deripaska in 2006, but the transaction itself was confidential. The house was bought by a certain company Hestia International and it is unknown who owns it. The interlocutors of the Washington-based newspaper say that this is Oleg Deripaska.
The Post called the purchase of a house for $15 million one of the most expensive real estate transactions in the history of Washington.
It is known that the area of the house is more than 2100 square meters. It has several dozens of different rooms. The house is located in the rich Embassy Row area. By the way, Embassy Row is home to a significant part of Washington’s political elite. It is assumed that Deripaska lives next door to influential American politicians and diplomats. In addition, there are many different foreign embassies nearby.
It is reported that after the purchase of the mansion in 2006, Deripaska personally came to the house to monitor the repair work. After the change of ownership the house was significantly altered.
Despite the statement of the newspaper’s sources, residents interviewed could not confirm whether the luxury mansion is really the property of the oligarch. A spokesman for Deripaska and his lawyers declined to comment on the matter.
