Oklahoma City: America’s Unexpected Olympic Hub for 2028

In 2028, the Olympic spirit is heading to Oklahoma City, a city no stranger to hosting major sporting events. Remember the 1989 Olympic Festival, where a young gymnast named Shannon Miller wowed crowds and President Ronald Reagan himself kicked off the festivities?

Now, OKC is stepping onto the world stage again, co-hosting two exciting Olympic sports for the LA28 Summer Games: canoe slalom and softball.

Mayor David Holt assures us, “We’ve been preparing for this for six years, working hand-in-hand with LA28 and the City of Los Angeles. We’re ready to create an unforgettable experience for athletes and fans alike.”

Why Oklahoma City? The city already boasts world-class facilities for both sports, eliminating the need for costly temporary venues in California. Riversport OKC is the premier canoe slalom destination in the Western U.S., and the city’s softball stadium, recently upgraded with a $35 million investment, is the best in the nation.

This is a big deal for softball, too, marking its return to the Olympic lineup after a 12-year hiatus. And who better to host than the softball capital of the U.S.? OKC has a proven track record of passionate fan support and top-notch facilities.
